WELCOME TO THE OMS DESIGN LAB!
This website was created to a be a resource for the students and staff at Oak Middle School in Shrewsbury, MA. However, all visitors to this site are welcome to utilize these resources. I hope you find them helpful.

The Design Lab is both a school makerspace and an Allied Arts class that focuses on engineering and creativity.

MAKER MINDSET
The goal of this makerspace is to help students develop a "maker's mindset" so they're encouraged to:
play, create, solve problems, embrace failure, iterate ideas, and be proud of what they create.
THE MAKERSPACE
The former Tech Ed classroom is now home to the Oak Middle School Design Lab, a school makerspace where students are encouraged to design and create meaningful work. With a lot of help from the Colonial Fund and some grants, the classroom has been outfitted with a laser cutter, vinyl cutter, five 3D printers, updated woodworking tools, and numerous other tools and materials.
2018
The Colonial Fund raised over $12,000 to update the new Design Lab!

They provided two Prusa MK3S 3D printers, a Boss 1420 laser cutter, LittleBits Pro Library, Cricut Maker vinyl cutter, new woodworking tools, and so much more!

Our makerspace would never have been possible without their help!
2019
Mr. Mularella received a $3,900 STEM grant from the Toshiba American Foundation! We were able to buy three more 3D printer kits, a water chiller for the laser cutter, and numerous other materials.

2020
Mr. Mularella received a $5,000 Student Success Grant from the NEA Foundation!
We used this money to purchase micro:bit classroom kits and a variety of other coding accessories.

Students will use these microcontrollers as part of our physical computing curriculum.
