MAKER AND DESIGN CHALLENGES

Maker Challenges
  1. Design and make a fun, eco-friendly outfit from only recyclable materials.

  2. Make a creative clock that keeps accurate time.

  3. Make a musical instrument that can play at least four different pitches.

  4. Make a kite that can be flown outside.

  5. Design, build, and test a Rube Goldberg machine

  6. Create a chain reaction device.

  7. Create something using LEGOs and/or K'NEX.

Cardboard Challenges
  1. Create a tiny home for a cat or other small pet using only cardboard and Makedo screws.

  2. Create furniture using cardboard as your primary material (chair, table, etc.)  

  3. Create a functioning cardboard automata.

  4. Create an arcade or carnival game out of cardboard.

  5. Create cardboard medieval armor.

Physical Computing Challenges
  1. Make a smart “wearable” (could be worn on wrist, arm, clothing, head, etc.)

  2. Make your own Operation game. 

  3. Make your own lightsaber that lights up and make sounds when you swing

  4. Make a security device.

  5. Design an autonomous rover (complex!)

Design Challenges
  1. Design and make a paper airplane that travels the furthest distance or has the longest air time.

  2. Make a functioning medieval siege weapon (catapult, trebuchet, or ballista) that launches a ping pong ball the furthest distance.

  3. Design and make a paper stomp rocket that launches to the highest altitude.

  4. Make a battery, solar, or wind powered vehicle.

  5. Make a maglev vehicle (magnetic levitation).

  6. Design something that is powered by wind or solar energy.

  7. Create a bridge out of spaghetti or straws that can span between two tables and support a load.

  8. Design and fly a micro drone.

3D Printed, Laser Cut, and Vinyl Cut Challenges
  1. Design a new logo for Maker's Workshop and create a vinyl decal for it. 

  2. Design some 3D printed or laser cut jewelry (earrings, necklaces, rings, etc.)

  3. Design a 3D printed cookie cutter.

  4. Create a 3D printed bubble wand and use it to blow bubbles outside. 

  5. Create laser cut drink coasters for your home.

  6. Create a layered card with the vinyl cutter that uses two different colors of card stock paper.

  7. Create a vinyl decal that uses two different colors of vinyl.
